Within the course "Innovative Materials for Architecture" of Prof. Giovanni Dotelli, Eng. Paolo Casadei and Eng. Gabriele Balconi from Sireg Geotech held the lecture "Impact of FRP rebars on the durability and sustainability of reinforced concrete structures: qualification and design according to European standards"

Sireg is an Italian manufacturing company specialized in products for geothecnical and civil engineering applications, with over 80 years of experience, founded by Cav. Emilio Blanc in 1936. The company started regenerating rubber from used tires and during its evolution has touched different fields and different materials, from PVC for batteries, plastic pipes for geotechnical applications to aramidic fibers and the production of rebars for temporary applications. The company increased its know-how and its production, becoming one of the main stake-holders in the production of structural elements for temporary and permanent structures.

Eng. Paolo Casadei and Eng Gabriele Balconi presented applications and environmental performances of glass fiber reinforced polymer rebars (GFRP), an innovative material for concrete reinforcement. The lecture highlighted the different aspects to be considered during the building design and all the details to consider during the lifetime of a structure, to improve its performance, the economic and environmental sustainability.
