Luca Testini graduated in 2023 with a M.Sc. in Environmental and Land Planning Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. During his thesis work, performed in collaboration with Lucchini RS S.p.A, he focused on the development of a washing system to improve Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) slag environmental behavior.
Luca joined Mat4En2 group in November 2023 as a PhD Candidate and his research topic focuses on the sustainability of steel-based materials and products.
He is a trombone player and a military history enthusiast.

Luca’s research is centered on the steelmaking industry sustainability, a well-known carbon intensive sector with relevant environmental impact. His research project named SUSTEEL aims to explore the sustainability-property nexus of steel-based materials and products. As sustainability encompasses environment, society, and governance, its assessment is conducted via Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) and Social LCA (S-LCA) while material properties are investigated using appropriate mechanical and microstructural investigation techniques (e.g. XRD and SEM).
