Nicolas Bertoldo is a PhD student in materials engineering at the Politecnico di Milano. In April 2022, he obtained his master's degree in Environmental Engineering with a thesis on the environmental sustainability of the footwear industry. His PhD project is in collaboration with the Lecco municipality, and it is focused on developing a methodology that helps Public Authorities in selecting the right criteria for the evaluation of sustainability and circularity in public procurements.

The European Green Deal encourages public authorities to choose environmentally friendly goods, services and works by introducing the Green Public Procurement (GPP). Nicolas’ research project, conducted in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco, aims to develop a methodology that can help Public Authorities (PA) to recipe the requirements of EU regarding the GPP criteria and targets as well as to support the Italian PNRR policies. The approach used rely on life cycle thinking tools, such as Life Cycle Assessment, Social Life Cycle Assessment, and Life Cycle Costing.
